Parachutes.  The Red Devils used the Irvin Delta II Parawings, Paracommanders and the advanced  'Sport 200' Parafoil, highly sophisticated 'Paraglider' canopies which had high forward speeds and gave considerable directional control during descent.

Reserve.  This was a small steerable emergency parachute worn on all parachute descents.  The reserve parachute is maybe used once in 100.000 jumps.
The parachutist also wears wears a one piece all-zipped jumpsuit, French 'micro-sole' para-boots and leather gloves, whilst the high quality British Everoak Grand Prix racing helmet and goggles complete his protection.

Instruments.  Altimeters and stop watches by Smiths gave The Red Devils indication of their height above the ground.
